WHAT IS ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE (A.R.T)?
ART is a patented, state of the art movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves caused by excessive scar tissue formation. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles and excessive build up of scar tissue.
WHAT IS SCAR TISSUE AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM NORMAL MUSCLE?
Damage to muscle by trauma or repetitive stress causes the body to try to repair itself with inflexible scar tissue.
|Scar Tissue||Healthy Tissue|
|Texture||Brittle, Stiff, Ridgid||Flexible, Soft, Rubbery|
|Pattern||Disorganized and Web-like||Uniform and organized bundle|
|Ability to absorb stress||Extremely Low||High|
|Ability to Eliminate Toxins/Acid Build Up||Low||High|
|Generates Pain Signals to Brain||Yes||No|
HOW DOES A PERSON DEVELOP SCAR TISSUE?
Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:
acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)
accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)
